The
Great Lakes Automotive Association (GLAA) was founded in 1995 by a group of
Michigan businessmen. Realizing that most automotive, service, repair and parts
businesses are interrelated with one another, their purpose was to form an
association to represent the entire industry for the mutual benefit of the
members.
The
founders recognized that as individual small businesses, the owners and
operators faced many business challenges alone and with limited resources.
They recognized that working together, these challenges could be more
effectively met by combining the experience, knowledge, and power of a
large group of similar businesses.
Additionally,
representing a large group of closely related businesses, the new
association could exercise the leverage of group buying power that would
enable the members to obtain favorable programs and prices through group
relationships with suppliers and vendors.
Today, GLAA has members across
Michigan and is a non-profit trade association headquartered in Grand
Rapids, Michigan.
